One dead, one injured after multiple-house fire in Duquesne

One person is dead and another hospitalized after four homes in Duquesne went up in flames overnight.

Firefighters arrived on the scene of a home fully engulfed in flames shortly after 1 a.m. in the 100 block of North Third Street where one person was found dead and at least one other person was taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries.

Two homes on the block were ruled a total loss, a third home had “significant water damage” and charring on its roof, and a fourth home was impacted by heat damage.

The Salvation Army was on the scene assisting impacted families.

All four homes were occupied at the time.

The City of Duquesne released a statement on social media on Thursday morning:

Our hearts are heavy this morning as we reflect on the devastating fire that occurred last night in our city. We extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by this tragic event, especially the victims, their families, and the first responders who bravely answered the call.

We are grateful for the swift action of our local fire departments and emergency personnel, who worked through the night to contain the blaze and assist those in need.

The City of Duquesne stands united in sorrow and support. We will continue to work closely with local agencies to provide assistance and ensure our community has the resources it needs to begin healing.

It’s unclear how the fire started.

The Allegheny County Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
