State lawmakers failed to reach agreements on two high profile issues on Tuesday.
First, a bill to legalize recreational marijuana died in a state Senate committee. House Democrats pushed through a measure without Republican support.
The plan to put the Liquor Control Board in charge of selling recreational cannabis rendered the measure dead on arrival.
This happened even though 68% of Pennsylvanians want the state to legalize the recreational use of marijuana.
Second, a voter ID bill was not taken up in the House even though polls show support for that is 73%. The inaction is a glaring example of how the two-party system often fails to work for the people.
Taxpayers are spending big money for partisan gridlock.
Spotlight PA estimates it costs more than $51 million a year for legislative salaries, per diems, office expenses and more.
A lawmaker's base salary is now more than $110,000 a year.
It is not unreasonable for the taxpayers of the Commonwealth to expect results and also why they would be upset.
