KDKA Radio Editorial: PA Leaders Sending The Right Message

In the wake of Charlie Kirk’s killing there’s been no shortage of inflammatory political and social media commentary, but not from three Pennsylvania leaders we want to commend.

Governor Josh Shapiro called for “universal condemnation” of the assassination, saying “political violence has no place in our country.”

Both of our US senators are on the same page.
Dave McCormick said “violence is never the answer, no matter your politics” and John Fetterman said “We must collectively find a way forward during these polarized times."

These messages cross party lines at a critical time. Both of the state’s political parties released non-partisan statements as well.

The Republican Party said Kirk’s murder “tears at the fabric of our nation.” The new chairman of the state’s Democratic Party said "Political violence is always wrong.” Eugene DePasquale went on to say Pennsylvanians “know all too well the devastation of an act of violence like this."

We do.

Since the connection between toxic rhetoric and political violence is clear, let’s take the high road and bring as many Americans as possible along with us.
