There is positive reaction from both sides of the aisle to news of a U.S. Steel/Nippon Steel deal.
Pennsylvania Senator Jay Costa tells KDKA Radio’s Rob Pratte he’s like to see union jobs preserved “and a commitment to make steel here, in this western Pennsylvania region, particularly at the Mon Valley Works, for many decades.”
Pennsylvania's new U.S. Senator, Dave McCormick, is offering new insight into what sealed the deal in the Nippon Steel-U.S. Steel merger.
McCormick, who played a big role in negotiations, telling Marty Griffin on the Big K Morning Show this is a huge boon for Western Pennsylvania.
“The thing that clinched it, when I talked to President Trump, and others did too . . . the people we made promises to . . . are going to be hugely benefitted from this job.”
He says this deal protects 10,00 jobs in the Mon Valley and creates 10,000 new jobs to build a new arc furnace, and says the merger is critical for our national security and economic security.
McCormick also says the CEO of U.S. Steel will be an American.
President Donald Trump will be in Pittsburgh Friday for a rally on the merger.
CNBC reports that the deal between Nippon and U.S. Steel will close at $55 a share.
