Pittsburgh-area convenience store with pest infestation ordered closed

A convenience store in Allegheny County was ordered closed by the Health Department Tuesday after an inspection found an infestation of cockroaches and other issues.

Inspectors say Grandview Convenience Store in McKeesport had a total of six violations.

The Health Department says an “infestation of German cockroaches remains and has grown progressively worse.”

Inspectors add that pest control visiting two times a month isn’t enough and it should be two times a week.

Roaches were found in a chest freezer in the kitchen, preparation cooker, hot dog warmer and in an employee bathroom.

Rodent droppings were found in a fryer cabinet.

Several roaches were found on glue boards in the front window “on restaurant side, behind chest freezer adjacent to basement door” and other areas.

The pest infestation must be resolved and the facility must be cleaned before it can reopen.

Any updates will be posted on the Health Department’s website.
