Pittsburgh currently in 'bullseye' of massive winter storm

Heavy snow and frigid temperatures this weekend

According to forecasters, a significant snowfall is expected to impact the entire Pittsburgh region.

Here’s what we know so far:

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch in effect from Saturday evening through Monday afternoon.

Meteorologist Chris Leonardi tells KDKA Radio there are still several scenarios that could play out.

On the low-end: 5 to 6 inches of snow

High-end: 12 to 15 inches of snow

As of Thursday afternoon, the most likely amount, according to Leonardi is 8 to 12 inches.

The snow is expected to start falling late Saturday with the heaviest snow falling through the day on Sunday.

And Pittsburgh isn’t alone.

“You look at a national map, right now, we basically have a continuous winter storm map extending from Texas all the way to central New York State, so the scope of this storm is massive,” said Leonardi.

And for Pittsburgh, we are currently in the “bullseye” of the storm.

Along with the snow, we are also going to be experiencing frigid cold temperatures beginning Friday and lasting, likely, through the week.

Temperatures are not expected to get above freezing through the week and the air temperature on Friday night will be around zero.

Whether on the low-end or high-end, significant snow is expected, so make sure you have the proper supplies in your house. Travel is expected to be “difficult to impossible” and could affect the Monday morning commute.

We’ll keep you updated with the latest developments as the storm moves closer.
