Pittsburgh expanding transit and infrastructure ahead of NFL Draft

Pittsburgh is stepping up preparations for the NFL Draft, expanding transit service and infrastructure ahead of expected massive crowds.

With as many as 700,000 visitors expected for the three-day festivities in late April, Pittsburgh leaders are preparing for what could be the largest event in city history.

Pittsburgh Regional Transit plans to expand bus and light-rail service, including more frequent trips on the T and temporary park-and-ride routes connecting fans to the North Shore and Downtown.

Visitors and residence are asked to have a plan ahead of time and use public transit whenever possible.

Rideshare and taxi services will also be available.

Meanwhile, a new cell phone tower is being installed at Point State Park to help handle increased demand as crowds gather for the NFL Draft Experience and main stage events near Acrisure Stadium.

City officials have also launched beautification efforts to get Pittsburgh ready before kickoff festivities begin April 23.

“Planning for transportation and traffic management during the 2026 NFL Draft is well underway. To prepare for a seamless fan experience, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pittsburgh Regional Transit (PRT), the Southwest Pennsylvania Commission (SPC), regional partners, and transportation engineers and NFL’s national transportation experts have developed a comprehensive, multimodal transportation plan to safely and efficiently move fans throughout the city,” VisitPITTSBURGH said in a statement.
