Pittsburgh Police alerted to planned anti-ICE protest Thursday

Police are preparing for an anti-ICE protest in Pittsburgh on Thursday.

In a memo obtained by KDKA Radio’s Colin Dunlap, officers are being informed of a “vigil and anti-ICE protest’ in Squirrel Hill.

The planned protest is scheduled for 5 p.m. near Murray Avenue.

Acting Police Chief Jason Lando sent a memo to officers indicating they learned of the protest through posts on social media following the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Renee Good.

Good was seen on video being shot by an ICE Agent while she tried to leave the scene of reported immigration enforcement activity.

The Department of Homeland Security released a statement calling Good a “one of these violent rioters” and that she “weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them – and act of domestic terrorism.”

In a press conference Wednesday with Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O'Hara and a very angry Minneapolis Mayor, Jacob Frey, called the recap from DHS "bulls***." He then told ICE to "get the f*** out of Minneapolis".

"They are already trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody directly: That is bulls***."

The mayor is also calling for full investigation into Wednesday's shooting and called the still unnamed woman a US citizen.

Chief O'Hara said the woman is 37-years old, white, and not a target of ICE. O'Hara says she was trying to get her car out of the road.

With the volatility surrounding the incident in Minneapolis, officers are being advised that any protest “may rapidly evolve or devolve”.

They are also being made aware of possible counter-protesting
