Pittsburgh Public Schools forced to make changes with no state budget

The long overdue state budget has the Pittsburgh Public school district making economic changes.

Effective immediately, it's freezing all of these:  hiring, all non-essential purchases including the use of P-cards, all non-mandated travel and non-essential overtime and execution of any new or renewed contracts not essential to classroom instruction.

Superintendent Dr. Wayne Walters says the decisions were not made lightly, adding the essential programs such as classroom instruction, meals, transportation and student support services will go on, uninterrupted
