A popular and highly-rated restaurant is ordered closed after a recent inspection.
According to a report from the Allegheny County Health Department, Thai street food restaurant, Took Took 98 on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill, had “food adulterated by pest(s), cross-contamination, pest/rodent activity” and more.
A total of 19 violations were found, including four considered “high-risk”.
Mouse droppings were found in a container of rice. That rice was thrown away during the inspection.
An inspector also found food (cooked noodles, sauce bottles, melon) stored in boxes that originally had raw chicken in it.
An “imminent hazard” was reported when a drip towel on a prep table was found on a cookline with three “fresh rodent droppings.”
An employee cleaning up rodent droppings was observed putting their gloved finger in their mouth.
“Inspector observed employee cleaning up rodent dropping wearing the same gloves immediately before observing contact with mouth.”
That and several other violations can be read in the inspection.
Any changes to the Ordered Closed status will be updated on the Health Department’s website.
The County's website has Took Took 98 under its Consumer Alert section, but the inspection report says the facility has been ordered closed.
