Punxsutawney Phil has made his winter weather prediction on Groundhog Day 2026 at Gobbler's Knob.
“There is a shadow here on my ground, six more weeks of winter abound,” said Phil (through Groundhog Club vice president Dan McGinley).
Phil predicts winter far more often. with just 21 early spring forecasts over the 140-year history of the event.
Icy temperatures kept the crowd bundled up. It was 2 degrees when Phil made his prognostication in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania.
“Groundhog Day continues to be one of the most joyful and inclusive traditions in the country,” said Thomas A. Dunkel, President of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club. “It brings people together from near and far to celebrate community, tradition, and a little fun in the middle of winter. Today’s prognostication made for another memorable Groundhog Day in Punxsutawney.”
The annual tradition goes back to 1887 when a group of hunters called “The Punxsutawney Groundhog Club” said that Phil was the “one-and-only weather prognosticating groundhog.”
