A local Congressman is demanding answers from Immigration authorities after an Oakmont man was taken into custody recently.
Congressman Chris Deluzio says he sent a letter to acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Direction Tom Lyons Tuesday, concerning the arrest of Jose Flores.
“I'm demanding answers to basic questions about the arrest and detention of Oakmont resident Jose Flores in front of his 8-year old daughter and other ICE activities in our area last month,” Congressman Deluzio said. “My office is in touch with his family and his lawyer—and according to them and local reporting, Mr. Flores has no criminal record and is in the United States legally under a valid work authorization document. I'll keep fighting for answers and accountability for ICE and Secretary Kristi Noem’s failed leadership.”
Flores was in the United States on a pending affirmative asylum and had been given a five-year work visa.
Flores was allowed to enter the U.S. due to Immigration parole, which is used for several reasons including humanitarian reasons.
The 47-year-old is a native of Nicaragua.
The Post-Gazette reports that Oakmont is aiming to pass legislation that would prohibit local police from partnering with ICE.
