A Brazilian man living in Sewickley was taken into custody by immigration officials on Sunday while his daughter battles cancer, leaving the local community with questions.
Hadley Haas, a spokesperson for the da Silva family confirms to KDKA Radio that Bruno Guedes da Silva was taken into custody by ICE agents.
An ICE spokesperson tells the Tribune Review that Guedes da Silva was wanted for the sale or transfer of firearm and lying to authorities.
But, according to local Congressman Chris Deluzio, “According to the family, Bruno has a valid work authorization, SSN, and license—and a little girl undergoing cancer treatment.”
Rep. Deluzio says his office is in contact with da Silva’s family.
“Once again, we need answers to basic questions about why the Trump Administration is trying to remove him from the country,” said Deluzio on “X”.
Deluzio was also part of a group of bipartisan lawmakers that helped return Jose Flores to Oakmont after he was taken into ICE custody in January.
The 37-year-old da Silva’s daughter is reportedly batting Hodgkin lymphoma and is currently undergoing treatments.
According to a GoFundMe to support the family, the daughter had a late chemotherapy session on Monday night.
da Silva was reportedly taken into custody near Osborne Elementary in the Quaker Valley School District.
According to documents, da Silva was taken to a detention facility in West Virginia.
In addition to his daughter, he and his wife have a son.
The GoFundMe has been established to “support the family with rent, medical bills and possible legal bills.”
