Some Post-Gazette employees hoping to keep paper in business

A number of developments after the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette announced plans to shut down in early May.

First, the National Labor Relations Board this week filed contempt charges against ownership, saying the newspaper is defying a court order to reinstate the health care plan employees had prior to the walkout by the Newspaper Guild.

And now, some employees who quit the union and/or crossed the picket line want new union elections.

Roberta Burkhart, a health and wellness reporter for the Post-Gazette, posted on Facebook, saying the strike was not widely supported, and that that many employees want a shift in their relationship from one they call "bitterly adversarial to productive.”

The post, signed by 49 P-G bargaining unit employees also says they want the Block family to give more time if needed to help preserve the family's legacy.
