The Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum at the Heinz History Center is going to be renamed in honor of Steeler great, Franco Harris.

The museum announced on the 53rd anniversary of the Immaculate Reception that the museum will be renamed the “Franco Harris Sports Museum” in 2026.

In a release, the museum said Harris Played a pivotal role in the development of the Sports museum” that opened nearly 22 years ago in the Strip District.

“Franco represented decency, charity, kindness, love, and humility. His goal was to make the world a better place for us all,” said Harris’ widow Dana. “Our family is honored that the Heinz History Center will continue to share his legacy with future generations.”

Dana is on the museum’s board of trustees and his son Dok is the co-hair of the History Uncorked event committee.

“Franco touched and inspired so many of us, not only with his achievements on the gridiron, but with his kindness, generosity, and leadership,” said Andy Masich, president and CEO of the History Center. “His influence has gone well beyond Western Pennsylvania and will continue to inspire future generations. It is altogether fitting that the Sports Museum should bear Franco’s name.”
