10 injured in Wisconsin rooftop shooting

In the early hours of Sunday morning, police responded to a call of a shooting at a rooftop party in Wisconsin that resulted in at least 10 people being injured, some of whom were teenagers.

Police shared that gunfire at the high-rise apartment in downtown Madison resulted in nine people being injured, while another was hurt by broken glass.

None of the injuries were considered to be life-threatening, though all of those who were injured were hospitalized, police shared.

As of Sunday afternoon, Madison police said that only one of the victims was still in the hospital.

“It is truly a miracle that no one is dead,” Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said at a news conference. “As a community, our hearts are hurting.”

The victims’ ages ranged from 14 to 23, police noted.

Officers responded to calls of a shooting at the apartment complex at around 12:45 a.m., and Barnes shared that the situation should have never happened.

“These students should have been celebrating summer vacation and not receiving medical treatment,” Barnes said.

The apartment complex where the shooting occurred is located near the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus, but school officials have said no students were among those known to be injured.

Police are still investigating the shooting, saying that no motive is known as of yet, and no one has been placed in custody.
