Black Friday mall shooting injures 3

At around 1:45 p.m. on Black Friday, shots rang out at the Park Plaza mall in Little Rock, Ark. According to police, three people were injured in the shooting.

All of the injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, said a Friday afternoon Facebook post from the Little Rock Police Department.

“We will update this information when traffic has resumed,” said the post.

Millions of consumers head to malls and stores on the Friday after Thanksgiving to get retail deals every year. Per the National Retail Federation, 76.2 million shoppers visited brick-and-mortar stores on Black Friday last year. So far in 2024, there have been 470 mass shootings in the U.S. – defined as shooting incidents that injure or kill at least four people, including the shooter, by the Gun Violence Archive.

At least three people were injured in a shooting that took place at Park Plaza mall early Friday afternoon, according to the Little Rock Police Department.

In Little Rock, police spokesperson Mark Edwards said there wasn’t an active shooter and that the shooting was an isolated incident, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette reported.

“I haven’t heard of any fatalities,” he said, according to the outlet.

Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott Jr. issued a statement at around 3 p.m., the Democrat Gazette added.

“The careless, senseless and criminal actions of two individuals today jeopardized the lives and safety of residents and visitors,” he said. “We are praying for the victims of this incident and are hopeful they make a full recovery. Gun violence is unacceptable at any time or in any place.
We trust those responsible for this will be held fully accountable for their dangerous and reckless decisions.”
