Early on Sunday morning, Secret Service members engaged and shot an armed man who had brandished his firearm near the White House, according to the Secret Service.
The “armed confrontation” resulted in the man being injured and taken to a local hospital, according to a statement from the agency. The man’s condition is not known at this time.
The Secret Service said it was notified on Saturday of a man with “suicidal intentions” who may be traveling from Indiana to Washington, D.C. At around midnight, Secret Service members encountered the man’s vehicle parked near the White House.
They then spotted a person matching the description of the man walking nearby, the agency said.
Officers approached the man, who then allegedly brandished his firearm, resulting in the confrontation. The situation ended with the suspect being shot. No injuries were reported among the Secret Service agents there.
President Donald Trump was not in any threat, as the agency shared he is spending the weekend at Mar-a-Lago, not the White House.
