Target cutting prices on more than 2,000 items heading into the holiday season

Inflation might be under 2%, but it still increased last month and many Americans are likely sighing at the thought of another holiday season looking at high prices. That’s where Target is coming in to spread a little joy.

In a Tuesday press release, the Minneapolis, Minn.-based big box retailer announced that it plans to slash prices on more than 2,000 items for the holiday season. These include items from Target-owned and national brands, said the company.

Holiday gifts such as toys and board games will be part of the discount list, of course, but they aren’t the only things that Target customers will get deals on. There will also be discounted beverages, everyday essentials, beauty products, bath towels, snacks, beverages, frozen vegetables, desserts, toilet paper, medicines, items to prep the home for holiday festivities and more.

“We know families are excited to celebrate the holidays, so Target is committed to helping them find joy without compromise – with great products across our assortment at even lower prices,” said Rick Gomez, executive vice president and chief commercial officer, Target. “From meal prep and gifting to everyday needs, Target’s offering the kind of exceptional value that’ll make it even easier for everyone to save money as they embrace the magic of the season.”

According to its press release, Target routinely adjusts its prices. For example, Audacy reported this May that the retail giant reduced prices for more than 1,500 items, and Target said that was eventually expanded to more than 5,000 items.

Target said this practice helps it stay competitive across the country. By the end of the year, it expects to have cut prices on more than 10,000 items. As it cuts more prices during the holidays, Target is also planning to hire 100,000 employees for the season.

Stores across the country are already beginning to see the latest batch of price cuts, Target said. So far, discounted items include the LEGO Technic 2022 Ford GT Car Model Set, reduced from$199.99 to $95.99; the Bluey Fire Truck, reduced from $24.99 to $19.99; 40 fluid ounce Crisco Vegetable Oil, reduced from $5.29 to $4.79; 32-ounce Coffee Mate Natural Bliss Sweet Cream, reduced from $5.29 to $4.99; the Magic Bullet Personal Blender Set, reduced from $49.99 to $39.99; 25-pound Purina Tidy Cats Litter, reduced from $8.59 to $7.79, and the 24-count up&up Daytime Cold and Flu Relief Softgels, reduced from $6.99 to $5.99.

In addition to cutting prices on thousands of items, Target also offers other season-long deals, such as thousands of toys under $20 and popular $5 bird décor lovingly called “birbs” by its legion of online fans. Earlier this month, Target also announced an exclusive Black Friday deal with pop icon Taylor Swift that features access to a new “The Eras Tour” book as well as new vinyl albums and CDs. Shoppers should just be aware that they can’t pay for their deals by personal check, as Target stopped accepting them this summer.
