Thousands of copies of the “God Bless the USA” Bibles being sold by former President Donald Trump were printed in China, according to a new report from The Associated Press.
Citing trade records that it obtained and reviewed, the AP reported that a printing company in eastern China shipped nearly 120,000 of the Trump Bibles to the United States in three shipments that arrived between February and March of this year.
The total cost of the shipments came out to $342,000, or less than $3 per bible, according to the report, which cited databases that track customs, imports, and exports data.
The minimum price for the Bibles being backed by Trump is $59.99, with the AP reporting that potential sales revenue for the books is about $7 million.
The “God Bless the USA” Bibles were just one of several items that the former president has started selling this year. The Bibles are sold in partnership with country musician Lee Greenwood, who wrote and sang the iconic song.
The former president announced the Bibles that come with a copy of the US Constitution, Pledge of Allegiance, Declaration of Independence, and Bill of Rights in a video he shared on his Truth Social site.
“Religion and Christianity are the biggest things missing from this country. And I truly believe that we need to bring them back and have to bring them back fast,” Trump said in the video. “I think it’s one of the biggest problems we have. That’s why our country is going haywire. We’ve lost religion in our country.”
The report from the AP raises a potential conflict of interest for the former president, as during his presidency, he moved to exempt Bibles and other religious texts from tariffs imposed on billions of Chinese goods.
The Trump campaign has not responded to a request for comment from the AP on its report at this time.
