The Pirates continue to make history left and right after their winning streak reached six games on Wednesday.
The Pirates’ pitchers blanked the St. Louis Cardinals in all three games at PNC Park, 5-0 Wednesday afternoon.
It’s the first consecutive home series sweep since they did it in 2018.
It’s also their first homestand going 6-0 or better since 2004 and the first three-game consecutive shutout since 2015 (one against the Phillies and two against the White Sox).
It’s only the third time in franchise history a Pirates team shut out an opponent over a three-game series. The last time it happened was against St. Louis in 1976 and before that…1903 against Boston.
The Pirates have also outscored the Mets and Cardinals 43-4 during the homestand.
“That's the most runs scored over a six-game span while allowing fewer than five runs in MLB history. The previous most while allowing so few was by the Cincinnati Outlaw Reds in 1884 (42),” said Pirates pre and postgame host Dan Zangrilli via OptaSTATS on “X”.
In a season that has had a lot more downs than ups, the way the Pirates have been playing lately (since Don Kelly took over as manager) as been a lot more entertaining.
The Bucs will look to keep things going on July 4th when they play the Mariners in Seattle.
