Eagle and Watt in awe of Danny Smith's brain, gum chewing ability

The Steelers’ defense showed up and showed out against the mighty Colts offense on Sunday afternoon at Acrisure Stadium.

But the real celebrity of the game that much of the country saw on the CBS was special teams coach Danny Smith, and his giant wad of chewing gum.

Smith outsmarted, seemingly everyone, after telling Chris Boswell to sent a kickoff out of bounds.

Since Indianapolis was penalized during the Steelers extra point attempt, the Steelers kicked the ball from the 50-yard line.

Smith knew that the ball landing out of bounce would start the Colts at the 25-yard line since and out of bounds kick is placed 25 yards from where the kick happens, and the kick happened at the 50.

With the NFL’s new kicking rules, this eliminated the possibility of a touchback, bringing the ball to the 35. Instead, Smith had the Colts start 10 yards behind where they would have.

CBS’ Ian Eagle and J.J. Watt were in awe of Smith after the play and the large amount of gum he’s able to chew.

“You combine that much gum and that much saliva, things will happen,” said Eagle.

“Oh, that thing’s a goner. He’s going to be chomping that very hard after that,” said Watt.
