Big Ben takes high road after Joey Porter's personal attack

Retired Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is taking the high road after he was thrust into a controversy last week after a teammate from his early playing days attacked his character.

Speaking on the “Not Just Football” podcast with Cam Heyward, retired linebacker Joey Porter took exception to what he interpreted as criticism of former Head Coach Mike Tomlin.

Porter said that Roethlisberger didn’t have any room to talk about “Steelers business” and also said he wasn’t a good teammate and wasn’t a good person.

“The sh*t that (Roethlisberger) did, that we don’t talk about, is crazy,” Porter said at the time. “Like, out of anybody that should talk, he should never grab a microphone and really talk Steeler business, because if we talking Steeler business his ass is foul of all foul.”

Roethlisberger didn’t respond directly to Porter on his latest “Footbahlin” podcast.

Instead, Big Ben talked about his personal growth over the years, crediting his faith.

“I think as we grow and mature, again, I will say it's only through the grace of God, that we can look back and be like, 'Man, look how much I am changing,’ I am proud of that,” said Roethlisberger on his Footbahlin. “Now I would like to think as we mature and as we grow in our faith, that it is less about me.”

Roethlisberger spoke about his early career over a decade ago, admitting he “wasn’t a good teammate.”
