NFL coaching veteran, former Pitt assistant new Steelers offensive coordinator

As first reported by Mark Kaboly, Brian Angelichio is the new OC

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – First reported by 93.7 The Fan Steelers insider and Pat McAfee Show correspondent Mark Kaboly is now confirmed by several others, Vikings tight ends coach and passing game coordinator Brian Angelichio will be the next Steelers offensive coordinator.

Angelichio worked with new Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy for three seasons (2016-19) as the tight ends coach. He coached 93.7 The Fan host and All-American Dorin Dickerson at Pitt as the tight ends coach (2006-10).

“This is a really good hire,” Dickerson said during The Fan Morning Show. “The non-biased part of me looking at what the Steelers are going to try to do on offense and the quality of offense they can put on the field.”

“I swear by him. He made my career. He made it possible for me to play in the NFL.”

He most recently spent the last four seasons with Kevin O’Connell and the Vikings with one of the more explosive offenses in the league. He has also worked as the passing game coordinator with Carolina with current Bills head coach Joe Brady as the offensive coordinator along with former Steelers assistant Frisman Jackson. Angelichio was also the tight ends coach in Washington (Jay Gruden & Bill Calllahan head coaches, former Steelers assistant Ike Hilliard WR coach), Cleveland (John DeFilippo OC, Mike Pettine head coach) and Tampa Bay (Greg Schiano head coach, former Steelers assistant Mike Sullivan offensive coordinator).

The 53-year-old worked with Matt Cavanaugh as his first offensive coordinator at Pitt and then had Frank Cignetti, Junior, who reportedly will be a Steelers senior assistant under Mike McCarthy.

“Brian knows what he’s doing,” said former Pitt assistant Tony Wise, who coached with Angelichio, with KDKA Radio’s Michael Bartley. “Brian is as good as there is. All he wants to do is win football games and coach guys. Brian loves Pittsburgh. He had choices, him picking to come here means a lot. He knows what he is doing, that is the best thing I can say about him.”
