Griffin shows why he's the top prospect in baseball with two homers

Konnor Griffin homered twice on Tuesday against Boston

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Hitless in his first five Spring Training at bats, which normally wouldn’t cause a fuss, but its baseball’s top prospect Konnor Griffin. On Tuesday in Fort Myers, that changed with a bang.

The 19-year-old Pirate shortstop homered twice in a Grapefruit League game against the Boston Red Sox.

The first was a two-run, 104.8 mile-an-hour shot to left field over the replica of the Green Monster off veteran lefty Ranger Suarez, who had a 3.20 ERA and 12 wins with the Phillies last year.

The second, dealing with two strikes, travelled 440 feet at 111.2 mph off righty Seth Martinez and not only cleared the Green Monster, but appeared to leave the ballpark.

The Red Sox announcer said after the second home run ‘if you don’t know the name yet, you will soon enough’.
