Former Steelers running back Najee Harris shared some hard truths about Pittsburgh offense.
Now with the Los Angeles Chargers, Harris told KCAL news the offense didn’t have an identity during his him in Pittsburgh.
“It was a just a team where, we lost Ben (Roethlisberger) we lost a lot of O-line, we just didn’t know anything on offense really, we didn’t have an identity,” said Harris.
He added that the most tenured player was only two or three years in the league and he didn’t have anyone to learn from.
“It was just defensive guys,” said Harris. “I’d go to the defensive guys talk to them, but it wouldn’t be too much they could tell me about the offensive thing.”
“It was interesting years there, I’ll just say that,” added Harris.
The Fan Morning Show discussed Harris’ comments. Adam Crowley said that Harris made a lot of valid points.
“Where was he going to turn, who was he going to talk to?” asked Crowley.
Crowley also pointed out Harris entered the league the same time that offensive coordinator Matt Canada came into the league. They were both rookies.
Pitt Football color analyst Pat Bostick says there are a lot of reasons that the Steelers offense hasn’t been good the past few years, with leadership being one of them.
But, “I get a little sick of the excuses from Najee, quite frankly,” said Bostick. “You were given every opportunity to be successful here, a lot of people bought your jersey. Why spit on Pittsburgh on your way out, I don’t get it?”
Dorin Dickerson said that the Steelers didn’t pick up his fifth-year option.
“Maybe if you played better, you would’ve gotten that option,” answered Bostick.
Crowley says that Harris is right but there is a little bit of class lacking in his comments.
But, Bostick says Harris is a reason the Steelers hasn’t been good too.
The former Pitt QB says he doesn’t have patience for complaining and says you can whine about facilities and lack of leadership, but someone like T.J. Watt has become an elite player in the NFL.
With Harris’ comments, Bostick says the running back “you better be a dude in L.A. man . . . you better rush for 2,000 (yards).”
