Oneil Cruz is already a Rookie of the Year favorite, per Vegas

Oneil Cruz is legit. The top prospect has already showcased his incredible arm and dangerous bat, all while running as fast as Tyreek Hill.

It took just two games for Cruz to establish himself as a must-watch star, and unsurprisingly, a Rookie of the Year favorite.

Cruz opened the season as the betting favorite to win Rookie of the Year honors, but he spent the first two and a half months of the season in the minor leagues for more “seasoning,” which is a euphemism for “service time manipulation.”

Well, entering Tuesday, Cruz already sprang up to the fourth-best odds at +600. On Wednesday, he sits at +450, according to the Post-Gazette’s Jason Mackey.

There is a new wrinkle in the CBA that mandates the top two finishers in Rookie of the Year voting in each league are automatically awarded a full year of service, regardless of whether they accrued enough time to qualify. If Cruz keeps playing well, the Pirates’ apparent efforts to manipulate his service time clock would be for naught.

That would be an interesting twist, huh?
