According to a report, former Pirates designated hitter Daniel Vogelbach is rejoining the team…as a coach.
Post-Gazette Pirates reporter Noah Hiles says that Vogelbach has been named “as a special assistant to the hitting department.”
That would also mean his playing days are over.
Vogelbach played 75 games with Pirates in 2022 before he was traded to the New York Mets in exchange for, then rookie, right-handed pitcher Colin Holderman, who has become a key piece of the Pittsburgh bullpen.
Vogelbach hit .228 while in Pittsburgh with 12 home runs, 10 doubles and one triple, with an OPS of .769.
He’s a career .219 hitter, slugging .405 and an OPS of .745.
At 32, Vogelbach played nine seasons in the MLB, starting with Seattle in 2016. He also played with Toronto and Milwaukee.
