Report: Steelers have backup QB plan if Aaron Rodgers doesn't return

The Steelers have begun to makes moves ahead of free agency officially starting Wednesday, but its still unknown who will be under center in 2026.

The odds of favorite to start is Aaron Rodgers for another, and probably final season.

But according to one NFL insider, the Steelers have a player in mind as a backup plan if Rodgers decides to retire, or less likely, play somewhere else.

Jason La Canfora of Sportsboom says league sources tell him veteran Kirk Cousins “is among the top options for Pittsburgh if Rodgers is not back.”

Cousins went 5-3 for Atlanta last season over 10 games with 1,721 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Cousins is being released by the Falcons after two seasons in Atlanta.

The Falcons are reportedly signing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa after he was released by Miami.

The 37-year-old Cousins was drafted by Washington in the 4th-round of the 2021 Draft. He also played several years in Minnesota.

The Steelers are also reportedly looking at other QBs as well.
