The Steelers could be stuck between a rock and a hard place with T.J. Watt.
Their options could come down to two choices, overpay for the former Defensive Player of the Year or trade him and not get much back.
If Watt wants to be the highest paid defensive player in the league, the Steelers will have to overpay, after the Browns overpaid Myles Garrett to keep him in Cleveland.
Garrett signed a four-year extension worth $160 million and $133.6 million guaranteed ($40 million a year).
NFL expert Steve Palazzolo, with “The 33rd Team” told The PM Team that if the Steelers think they can get one or two first-round picks for Watt, they’re sorely mistaken.
“You’re talking like a third, we went through this with Myles Garrett, it’s like two (number 1 draft picks) for Myles Garett,” said Palazzolo. “Well no, you gotta pay him $40 (million) so no one is going to give up two ones to go pay a guy that much.”
The situation has left Andrew Fillipponi without a take.
“I don’t want to pay him $40 million a year, I don’t want to give him Myles Garrett’s contract and I don’t want to trade him for only a third-round pick,” said Poni.
Listen above for the whole discussion.
