The New England Patriots traded quarterback Joe Milton to the Dallas Cowboys and according to a report, the Steelers were one of the teams interested in him.
The Patriots are sending Milton and a seventh-round pick to Dallas for a fifth-round pick.
According to FOX Sports NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, the Steelers, along with the Raiders, Eagles and Giants “showed interest” and that Milton had been available since the official start of the offseason.
Schultz says New England “had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him.”
Milton was taken in the sixth-round of last year’s draft out of Tennessee and made his NFL debut in the last game of the year for the Patriots, going 22-of-29 for 241 yards and one touchdown.
Poni and Mueller reacted to the Milton news Thursday and essentially said the Steelers aren’t missing out on anything.
“I don’t think it’s a real gripe that they decided, a dude that lost his job to Hendon Hooker and got beat out at Michigan too is not the salvation to their quarterback prayers,” said Andrew Fillipponi.
Chris Mueller says that Milton has a rocket arm “but needs a ton of coaching.”
And, if you don’t think the Steelers have been good at developing quarterbacks, why would you think they could help Joe Milton?
“I don't think the Steelers missed out on much with Joe Milton,” said PM Team producer Donny Chedrick. “He's got great size and can throw the ball further than Uncle Rico. But he's a massive project - and the Steelers don't have the offensive coaching to concoct a great creation.”
Poni says his understand is that Steelers were “interested” in him, General Manager Omar Khan was just gauging what it would take to get him and coach Mike Tomlin had no interest.
