Report: Steelers expect to re-sign Russell Wilson, other report says not so fast

Russell Wilson suffered his first loss in black and gold on Thursday night against the Browns.

While Wilson is being called out for a poor performance by some in the national media recently, Wilson did complete 21 of 28 passes in snowy Cleveland for 270 yards, one touchdown, zero interceptions and a passer rating of 116.7.

Over the weekend, NFL Insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported the Steelers plan to re-sign Wilson after the 2024 season.

The Steelers have a long history of not making contract decisions in-season and Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports any move done with Wilson before the offseason would “complicate significantly” the money he is owed from Denver.

Florio also speculates that it isn’t a shoo-in that Wilson re-signs with the Steelers in the offseason.

“Justin Fields, who got more than a few reps on Thursday night, hints at a hope that Fields will be the guy for 2025,” writes Florio.

Ideally, you’d think the Steelers would like to have both Wilson and Fields back in 2025, but most likely, they’ll only be able to sign one.
