Former Steelers linebacker Joey Porter made waves across Steeler Nation on Wednesday when he didn’t mince words about his feelings toward Ben Roethlisberger.
Porter said on Cam Heyward’s podcast that he loves his quarterback but, “is he a good person, no.”
“Anybody in the Steeler building knows that, but we protected him because, I’ve only won one Super Bowl and that was my quarterback,” added Porter.
But as Joe Starkey Points out, Roethlisberger admitted he wasn’t a great teammate earlier during his career.
In an interview 11 years ago with Bleacher Report, Roethlisberger he was not a good teammate.
“With time, you understand you can't keep being a selfish player or person,” said Roethlisberger. “It's the ultimate team sport, and in order to be successful, you have to be selfless. Just like being a successful father, you have to be selfless."
What was also noticeable was the lack of support Big Ben got from his former teammates.
But, The Fan reached out to several players that either didn’t respond or said they wanted to stay out of it.
It makes sense, there’s no winning for players caught in the Steelers family feud.
But former offensive lineman Zach Banner came to Roethlisberger’s defense on social media.
“I have other stuff this week I want to worry about, that is more important than this REALITY TV drama that’s circulating around Pittsburgh Steeler football today…,” Banner wrote before adding “But when someone is wrong, and pick on a friend/brother like they did, you all know it’s in my nature to speak up.”
“Ben aka 7 is one of the best big bros in football I’ve ever had,” said Banner. Read the full post below.
Sports Director Jeff Hathhorn also brought up a good point on The Pomp & Joe Show Thursday, saying if you think the 70s Steelers all got along, you’re ignorant.
