Tomlin embraces dreary weather for day 2 of OTAs

What new corner said of the importance of going through voluntary work

PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – There was a perfectly good indoor facility just yards away, but the Steelers went through their second voluntary team workouts of the season outside in the rain on Wednesday. There was little complaining, just work.

“Coach T likes to say you see around corners like this because there is going to be a game where it is raining, maybe snowing,” said third-year linebacker Nick Herbig. “Whatever it is, we are going to be prepared for it. Rain, sleet or snow, we are out here.”

Last year a couple of times at the end of the season the Steelers practiced in varying amounts of snow and cold temperatures. Even going over to Acrisure Stadium when the fields were too rough on the South Side. Wednesday, it was about rain. There were short spurts of time where the rain lessoned, but there were also times of hard showers. The Steelers kept practicing and Tomlin kept encouraging his team to push through.

“This is where it starts,” said first-year Steelers corner and 12-year NFL veteran Darius Slay. “This is where championships start at.”

“For me, I just came off a Super Bowl and everybody got to buy in. This is the type of time, everybody’s got families, I got one as well. You want to be a champion, some stuff you got to sacrifice. I want to come in here, be on time, be present, let guys see my face.”

“It’s important for me to be here. I’m here to win.”

No matter the weather.
