Last week, Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizhuara, was fired following allegations he stole at least $4.5 million from Ohtani to pay off gambling debts.

A report by the Orange County Register, however, suggests Mizhuara owes more than the $4.5 million. The exact amount, however, is unclear.

Major League Baseball opened an investigation into the gambling and theft allegations.

On Monday, Ohtani addressed the allegations, telling reporters “up until a couple days ago I didn't know that this was happening.”

Ohtani signed a 10-year contract with the Dodgers in December for $700 million.

The home opener is set to begin at 1:10 p.m.
