As the deadline for Los Angeles County employees to show proof of full vaccination approaches, thousands have yet to follow through.

L.A. officials say almost 59,000 employees are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and over 1,600 workers are partially vaccinated.

However, almost 6,000 workers reported they are not vaccinated, and more than 40,000 have not even submitted their vaccination status to the current reporting system. County officials said it is possible some employees submitted the information earlier but the response needs to be transferred within the system.

With the deadline for Friday fast approaching, L.A. County CEO Fesia Davenport said there's a "robust" effort underway to get employees to respond.

"And we will continue to do that through October 1st and afterward,” Davenport said.

Neither the Board of Supervisors nor other county officials have said what will happen to employees who are not vaccinated by the deadline.

On Aug. 10, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Chair Hilda Solis’ executive order requiring all L.A. County employees to show proof that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by Oct. 1.
