Hours-long Highland Park standoff ends in surrender

A suspect who allegedly brandished a weapon and fired shots in the Highland Park area engaged in a more than four hour standoff with police Thursday before ultimately surrendering.

Officers with the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the 6000 block of Delphi Street around 9:20 a.m., City News Service reported.


KNX News’ Karen Adams reported that the man fired off some shots while inside the residence, but there were no injuries.

A SWAT team and crisis negotiators were sent to the scene, and the standoff continued into the afternoon.

Shortly before 2 p.m., the LAPD reported that the suspect had surrendered and was taken into custody. The suspect's name was not immediately released but is described as a white male approximately 42 years old.

The man is reportedly wanted for a bar shooting that happened on Wednesday night, and is well known among community members for shooting his guns into the air.
