A man in Altadena is growing frustrated with an uninvited guest living underneath his home - a huge bear.

Ken Johnson told KNX News’ Karen Adams he noticed the bear living in his crawl space on Nov. 25

“The first time was when I didn't see it on the camera anymore because the batteries were dead,” he said. “ I went, ‘Oh no. I don't know if it's still there or where it is.’ So, I snuck around the house to try to grab that camera, and I just kind of looked in the hole, and I heard that big old growl, and I just ran.”

Johnson said he struggled to get a hold of Fish and Wildlife, and when he finally did, he was referred to its website, where he filled out a report.

“But even it said there have been so many sightings and work that it may be a while till we can get back to you,” he said. “So I'm stuck with that bear under there.”

But, Johnson said, he has a plan.

“I want to go to Home Depot and get my sandbags and bear spray,” he said. “Me and my friend figured out maybe stuffing it with sandbags and then putting a coat of mortar over it.”

The problem, he said, is that the bear's only been leaving for 20 minutes at a time, which is not long enough to seal the opening properly.

People in the area recognise the bear because of its markings and the fact that it’s tagged. They’ve nicknamed the bear Barry.
