BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KNX) — The 81-year-old wife of a veteran Los Angeles music executive was shot and killed during an invasion of their Beverly Hills home in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

According to Beverly Hills police, Jacqueline Avant was killed during an attempted robbery in the 1100 block of Maytor Place in the Trousdale Estates neighborhood shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Beverly Hills Fire Department paramedics transported Avant to a local hospital, but she reportedly did not survive the trip.

Avant was a prominent philanthropist in L.A. She was survived by her husband, Clarence Avant, 90, a major figure in the music industry who worked with artists like Jimmy Smith and Bill Withers. He received the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Ahmet Ertegun Award in May, and was the subject of a 2019 Netflix documentary The Black Godfather.

The couple’s daughter, Nicole Avant, was formerly a U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas under President Barack Obama. She is married to Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident, a spokesperson for the Beverly Hills Police Department told KNX 1070. Authorities are expected to hold a press briefing on the shooting later on Wednesday.
