Boy fatally shot near George Washington Preparatory High

Police Tuesday are continuing their investigation of a fatal shooting that killed a boy about one-third of a mile west of George Washington Preparatory High School following multiple fights.

Deputies responded to the 10800 block of Western Avenue in the unincorporated Westmont area near Inglewood around 3:50 p.m. Monday to reports regarding shots fired, authorities said.

The boy was taken to a hospital, where he died, authorities said.

A person of interested was detained, according to the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

It was unclear if the shooting was gang-related.
