California to allow cocktails to-go with food orders and keep outdoor parklet dining areas

When California's economy fully reopens later this month, some pandemic-era changes you may like will go on.

The state's relaxing the rules so that restaurants and bars can continue offering cocktails to-go with food orders and keep outdoor parklet dining areas going at least through the end of the year.

"This is a good thing for our economic recovery. It's also a good thing for our public health," says Governor Gavin Newsom. "It'll encourage to people to still be outside. This pandemic is not behind us."

While the state's encouraging parklet dining, local leaders will ultimately decide what happens on their streets and sidewalks.

"We're trying to take something that really seemed to work in this pandemic and to allow the flexibility, not mandating anything, but allowing the flexibility for cities big and small in this state, including San Francisco, to consider the opportunity to continue to allow these parklets," he says.

LA is among the cities that are considering keeping outdoor dining programs going.
