An expanding bird flu outbreak has California officials worried.

Cases of the avian flu have been confirmed in four counties so far. It’s been detected in Fresno, Sonoma, San Benito, and Stanislaus counties. A state warning described the disease as widespread, possibly reaching further than the four stated counties.

Farms with cases of the avian flu are being quarantined, according to California officials. Infected birds are being killed by animal control agencies.

A rise in egg prices earlier this year was blamed on an outbreak of the bird flu. That wave killed millions of hens.
