Homicide detectives are working to identify a woman who was found dead in the Dominguez Channel.

The woman’s body was found Sunday just before 7 p.m. on Carson Plaza Drive in Carson, ABC 7 reported.

Although the outlet reported that her legs were missing, Lt. Michael Modica with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department did not confirm that with KNX News’ Emily Valdez. He did confirm she suffered severe trauma and her body was decomposing.

“We don't know really the age or even the race yet and the detectives are working in an attempt to identify the person,” he said.

The woman had a large skin tag on the right side of her torso and stretch marks, according to the medical examiner. She was also wearing a gray button-up dress with white horizontal stripes.

Anyone with information was urged to contact the sheriff's department at (323) 890-5500.
