HOLLYWOOD (CNS) - An attempt by authorities to serve an eviction notice on at least one tenant at a Hollywood apartment complex led to a standoff today that included a report of a shot being fired, prompting a shutdown of streets and the Hollywood (101) Freeway.
The standoff began at about 8 a.m. in the 2300 block of Cahuenga Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The eviction notice was being served by personnel from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, authorities said.
Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau personnel were sent to the scene after a gunshot was heard in the area, according to authorities and reports from the scene. No injuries were reported.
Traffic on surface streets was routed away from the area as a precaution, and a command post was established.
About 9:30 a.m., a section of the nearby Hollywood (101) Freeway in the Cahuenga Pass was also shut down as the standoff continued, leading to miles-long backups in both directions.
