Friends of Griffith Park president weighs in on fitting memorial for P-22

LOS ANGELES (KNX) –As the local animal-loving community continue to mourn the loss of famed mountain lion, P-22, many are wondering if he will be memorialized permanently.

While the famous mountain lion was memorialized with a hike and with murals across Los Angeles, could there be a statue for P-22?

“Something permanent for sure is in order and that might suggest bronze, but I think there’s other possibilities as well,” Gerry Hans, the president of Friends of Griffith Park told Mike Simpson and Margaret Carrero on LA's Morning News.

Hans added that while getting approval for a memorial or statue is a “rigorous process”, it could garner a lot of support from the community.

“And that discussion will be between Rec and Parks, council district four and hopefully, Friends of Griffith Park and National Wildlife Federation,” he noted.

Friends of Griffith Park had planned for a mural for over a year and that the mural was approved. The artwork is in the process of being approved.

“It’s basically a three-part mural at the Griffith Park Visitor’s Center that celebrates not only P-22, but the college of Griffith Park and its amazing eco-system,” Hans explained.
