Dunsmore Elementary School in Glendale received two dozen bikes Friday.
The bikes are part of a program to teach kindergarten students how to ride in PE class. The balance bikes include kits so the kids can progress to pedals. KNX News’ Margaret Carrero spoke to Principal Kelly Worley about the program.
“It's really difficult in the area that we live in because we are surrounded by hills and it's a difficult place for the kids to be able to ride,” she said. “So this is just a true gift that they've given us today. A lot of the kids had said that they weren't able to ride a bike and have never ridden a bike.”
HDR, an agriculture and engineering firm, gave a grant to All Kids Bike in order to make the program happen.

“My kids are grown now, but to see these little ones and the excitement on their face and even the kids that thought they knew how to ride a bike, to see, come around in the circle and see the smiles on their face as they're coming around on the first lap or two on the bikes, it's really, really fun,” Trip Grant, with HDR, said.
He said they’re doing this for 40 schools around the country, including a handful in Southern California.
