Since E-bikes exploded in popularity, Hermosa Beach city leaders say they've heard many concerns from residents.
Hermosa Beach Mayor Justin Massey tells KNX News' Nataly Tavidian, "We've heard about riding on The Strand on Pier Plaza and in our parks. Of course, we also hear about concerns related to folks riding E-bikes on sidewalks. Part of the larger picture about the basic rules of the road that folks on bikes and E-bikes are to honor."

The city council is holding an urgent ordinance meeting Tuesday starting at 7 PM, and if the council approves the new ordinance, it would go into effect immediately.
Some new rules they are considering include prohibiting riding in an unsafe manner, which means putting others in danger. The council is also considering requiring helmets for those under 18 and possibly prohibiting E-bikes on The Greenbelt, the park running north-south through the city.
For anyone interested in learning more about the existing rules, including the prohibition on motorized bikes on The Strand, Mayor Massey said they can be found in the state's vehicle code and the Hermosa Beach municipal code, which are available on the city's website.
