‘Oppenheimer,’ ‘Succession,’ and ‘Beef’ win big at 81st Golden Globes

Oppenheimer,” “Succession,” and “Beef” were among the big winners at the 81st Golden Globes on Sunday evening.

“Oppenheimer” took home five awards, including. Best Motion Picture Drama, Best Director, Best Actor in a Drama for Cillian Murphy, and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr.

Not only did Netflix’s “Beef” sweep the Best Television Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture categories, but the show had a historic win for its stars Ali Wong and Steven Yeun. Wong and Yeun became the first actors of Asian descent to win in their categories.

Backstage, the show’s creator, Lee Sung Jin, called the historic win “amazing.”

“Steven and Ali are at the top of their games not only in their craft but as people,” he said. “[I’m] definitely grateful for their friendship. To see them also be the first ones…I don’t think there’s anyone more deserving.”

"Killers of the Flower Moon" actress Lily Gladstone also made history when she became the first Indigenous person to win a Golden Globe for Best Actress.

HBO’s “Succession” grabbed four wins, including Best Television Series Drama. Sarah Snook and Kieran Culkin won in the lead actress and actor in the Drama categories, while Matthew Macfadyen won Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series.

FX’s “The Bear” grabbed the Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy, as well as the lead acting categories for its stars Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri.

“Poor Things” took home Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy, while its star Emma Stone won Best Performance By An Actress In a Musical or Comedy.

“The Holdovers” won in the acting categories, with Paul Giamatti winning Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy and Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning Best Supporting Actress.

“Barbie” did not walk home empty-handed. The movie picked up an award in the show’s first-ever Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category and Best Original Song for “What Was I Made For?”
