The Writers Guild and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers are returning to the bargaining table for the third day in a row.
“The WGA and the AMPTP met for bargaining today and will meet again tomorrow,” the WGA said in a email to members. “Your Negotiating Committee appreciates all the messages of solidarity and support we have received the last few days, and ask as many of you as possible to come out to the picket lines tomorrow.”
SAG-AFTRA has not met with AMPTP since going on strike in July.
Entertainment lawyer Jonathan Handel told KNX News’ Jon Baird that because SAG-AFTRA and the WGA want different things, a deal with the writers won’t serve as a blueprint when it comes to a deal with the actors.
“It serves as a perhaps an influence, perhaps an inspiration in certain ways, but it's not as easy as, you know, stamping out the cookie,” he said.
One example, he said, is basic wage increases.
“The writers are willing to settle at 6%,” he said. “The studio is offering five but SAG wants 11 because of the recent inflation.”
Handel added that even if the AMPTP reaches a deal with both unions, it will take time to get productions up and running again.
