WASHINGTON D.C. (KNX) – The House Rules Committee announced it will hold a hearing on a bill to legalize marijuana on Monday.
The bill, named the Marijuana Opportunity Reinvestment and Expungement (MORE) Act, would decriminalize marijuana, as well establish a process to remove "convictions and conduct sentencing review hearings related to federal cannabis offenses."

It would also establish an “excise tax” on cannabis created and imported into the U.S., as well as an “occupational tax” on facilities and export warehouses that make cannabis.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) sponsors the bill.
“My bill, The MORE Act, is the most comprehensive marijuana reform bill ever introduced, and it’s backed by a broad coalition of civil rights, criminal justice, drug policy, and immigration groups,” Nadler said about the bill in 2019.
On Sept. 30, 2021, the bill advanced to the house floor.
Monday’s hearing will be the bill’s final step before it reaches consideration, The Hill reported.
